The ultimate celebration of 20 years in Sonic gaming, Sonic Generations delivers the definitive gaming experience for Sonic fans new and old.

Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power comes into force, creating ‘time holes’ which take Sonic and his friends back in time. While there, Sonic runs into some very familiar characters from his past including a younger, classic version of himself! Now they must defeat their enemies, save their friends, and find out who is behind this diabolical deed.

Sonic Generations is largely a game for the most hardcore of Sonic fans, but for the millions who have fond memories of narrowly dodging spikes, grinding on rails, or even that time he was a pinball, Sonic Generations is a game made for you.

Let's just hope that the development team keeps up this level of quality so that in the future, Sonic games like Generations become the rule rather than the exception.

Sega finally appears to have learned from its mistakes. Sonic Generations' thoughtful mishmash of the hedgehog's distinct incarnations delivers the best of both worlds.

The blue blur is back, and he's rocking the platforming world once again. For fans of Sonic and platformers alike, this is absolutely essential.

This is easily the best Sonic game since the hog's Sonic 2 glory days. Surprisingly, modern Sonic's levels are the more impressive and fun

..impressive efforts with their *genre* with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound the most discerning players, but is worth everyone's time and cash.

Fans might have preferred compilation of Sonic's 16-bit greatest hits, but a career-spanning retrospective is what ended up on the track list. And you know what? Against all odds, Sonic Generations feels adequate.

While they aren't there quite yet, Generations marks the best attempt at a modern Sonic game so far.

Sonic Generations hits its target well - with the genuinely bruising qualification that it can frequently be difficult to look at.

There's a lot of fan love here, from showdowns with your rivals - Metal, Shadow and Silver - to revisiting some familiar but excellently reworked levels.

It still doesn't really suggest how the series can move forward in the future, but at least it lays to rest some of the worst excesses of the past.

Unfortunately, only a third of the game is dedicated to re-creating Genesis-era stages, and classics like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic 3D aren’t represented at all.

The last half of the game serves only to remind you of how far the series has fallen from its original form.

Compared to Colors, Sonic Generations is a weaker, above average effort.
