Details

A cultural cold war divided upon class lines, a new age of surveillance,
heroes’ incarcerated in the worst conditions possible for speaking out against the military complex,
a corrupt press core owned by multi-national corporations and raised to repeat sound bytes.
This is the post-cyberpunk world on the brink of collapse Atari Teenage Riot’s fourth album "Is This Hyperreal?" is born into.

Every track is a iridescent explosion of nervous energy requesting your attendance in Atari Teenage Riot’s campaign party of education and awareness.

Pummelling electro punk at it's finest

a piledriver pummelling your head for your pleasure, just as a lyrical sabre eviscerates the swine.

Atari Teenage Riot in 2011 are as raw and self indulgent as they ever were, and while their comeback record won't seal their place in history, those who loved them the first time around will lap it up.

Undoubtedly years ahead of his time, the fact Atari Teenage Riot have been making confrontational music for 20 years now yet still sound like nothing else on Earth speaks volumes.

Even after a decade away, Atari Teenage Riot are still equally angry and entertaining, and Is This Hyperreal? just may be one of their definitive statements

On this new album, it’s not so much a problem that they remain stuck in the 90s politically...

To put it simply, Is This Hyperreal? suffers not because the band made a bad album, but because this is the fourth time they’ve repeated the formula.

Redundant as it may be, though, Is This Hyperreal? succeeds simply as unintentional nostalgia, at least for someone who experienced the band the first time around.

Returning after 11 years of officially not existing, what's left of ATR could've focused their energies on kicking lots of ass.

Noise merchants return with a thud and a skree

But this time around, ATR's protest platitudes ("Are you ready to testify?") and electronic skronk-thud ("Digital
Decay," with female member Nic Endo holding forth on Internet freedom), sound awkwardly dated.

Hopefully, or at least ideally, most old hands making big comebacks don't feel the need to meticulously craft an album so it's exactly like their past work. But then, that should be common knowledge, right?

Make no mistake: Is This Hyperreal? is an incredibly disappointing album.
