Details

In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy 'The Hangover,' Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

Here, as in The Hangover, the laughs aren't just staged, they're superlatively engineered — even if that means, at moments, that they feel like they're falling into formatted slots. When they don't, the movie can be flat-out
 hilarious.

What happens in Bangkok isn’t as much fun as when it happened in Vegas, but it’s still worth the trip.

Darker and meaner than the original but just as funny and horrifying. And like the best stag do’s, sure to be recalled in the pub for weeks afterwards…

The Hangover Part II has to rely solely on the strategy that made the first film into a worldwide phenomenon. Lucky us.

Because it doesn't tamper with a hugely successful formula, The Hangover Part II is bound to be a hit.

Sequels are never a good idea, especially if the first film is good. And The Hangover was very good.

The Hangover Part II may be the funniest movie so far this year, although that may be saying more about the lack of competition than the movie itself.

Looking to catch more buzz in a bottle, The Hangover Part II isn’t so much a sequel but a remake of the most successful R-rated comedy of all time.

Still reeling in the same circles

What seemed laugh-out-loud fresh in its unpredictable rudeness (at least intermittently) is now chuckle-to-yourself funny with about the same regularity.

The new setting gives Part II more edge than its predecessor and, combined with a bit more action and intrigue, makes the sequel a touch darker than the original.

While “The Hangover Part II” will inevitably also clean up, I have the sad duty to report I found this more elaborate, play-it-safe sequel far less fresh or funny.

At its best, especially when Alan is blurting his sick sentiments, the humor is amusingly familiar, like another installment of a lowbrow serial.

Too much hangs over in new 'Hangover'

Because in Phillips' Bangkok-and-bull story, almost everybody in Thailand is either a Buddhist monk or a sex worker; the movie gives off the stale odor of cultural stereotyping.

The chemistry between the actors keeps the film from being a total wash-out: Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis work together like a practiced troupe of comedians, and their likability keeps the film afloat even after Russian mobsters and car chases take over.

During their Vegas bachelor night debauch, Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) lost the groom on the eve of his wedding; this time, they lose the Thai bride’s innocent 16-year-old brother on the eve of her marriage to Stu.
