Almost actionably late to the market, the Grand C-Max is a fine-riding seven-seater with some new tricks and useful extras. Sliding side doors are useful, but mar the rear coachwork. Five-seat version is more agile.

There's is much to like here, but a Focus Estate will be just as capable and more fun to drive, and the Grand C-Max is a more flexible car for a big family.

Ford was a little late in launching a compact people carrier but the Focus C-MAX (rebadged as just the C-MAX in 2007) made a big impact in the market
